Welcome to Stokesay Primary School

Spring 26.

Year 1 took part in their topic day by dressing up as 'Toys' linked to their history topic. The children looked really good in their costumes.
They began the day by writing their own lost toy story based on the story of 'Dogger' by Shirley Hughes and then then in the afternoon the children designed their own toy puppet ready to begin making in subsequent weeks. In their history lesson, Year 1 looked at toys from different time periods and discussed how they were similar or different.

World Book Day 2026 - The children all looked great in their costumes and pyjamas for world book day. Throughout the day the children completed a book scavenger hunt, designed a new front cover for a book, visited the library and made bookmarks.

Year 1 had a great time on their trip to Blists Hill. They got to experience a range of old toys from the Victorian times. The children had to investigate how some toys work, as toys in the past didn’t have batteries. After the workshop we had chance to look around the rest of the museum. The children visited the bakery, the carpenters, a house and a chemist. They also saw the horse and cart travelling around. A very enjoyable day, well done Year 1 for your excellent questions.
